The benefits of stainless steel CNC machining
High Strength
Stainless steel would be a suitable choice for components that require processing with thin metal, as it has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Moreover, the strength of stainless steel can be further enhanced through processes like heat treatment and cold hardening, as stainless steel exhibits strong resistance to extreme temperatures and harsh environments. Martensitic stainless steel possesses the highest strength among the various metallurgical structures of stainless steel.
Versatility and Flexibility
Due to its great flexibility, stainless steel can be easily cut, shaped, machined, and welded just like traditional steel. To further enhance its formability, sulfur is commonly added to stainless steel. Austenitic stainless steel is renowned for its most formable and versatile variants.
Strong corrosion resistance
Due to its high corrosion resistance, stainless steel can be used in many applications. Different grades of alloy steel can withstand varying degrees of corrosion. The higher the grade, the greater the corrosion resistance. Austenitic stainless steel is capable of withstanding corrosive environments such as acidic, chloride, and alkaline solutions.
Durability
Using stainless steel in CNC machining can prolong the service life of components and reduce maintenance costs. Stainless steel can also resist rust and corrosion, making it cost-effectively superior to other metals with these combined properties.
Attractive appearance
The refined appearance has always been a demand in the manufacturing industry. Stainless steel can meet the requirements of modern decoration, with an aesthetic appearance, as it offers a variety of surface treatments to choose from.
The grade of stainless steel we use

If you are considering choosing stainless steel as the material for your CNC machining parts, you can rest assured that you are opting for a material with many advantageous characteristics. Due to the versatility of CNC machining, engineers may find it challenging to pinpoint the exact material that is suitable for a specific project from a list of materials.

Our team of expert designers is ready to take on this challenge, as they have decades of engineering experience. Material selection will certainly be impeccable, making it easier to achieve your expected results. Here is our introduction to the main grades of stainless steel:

Stainless Steel 303
This is a type of austenitic steel that is the easiest to machine. This stainless steel has strong toughness, but its corrosion resistance may be reduced after the addition of sulfur. Due to its excellent machinability, it is suitable for mass production.
Stainless Steel 304
This stainless steel contains 8% nickel, 18% chromium, and a maximum carbon concentration of 0.07%. Its excellent performance, such as good formability and corrosion resistance, is demonstrated after CNC machining. It is suitable for decorating any kitchen, home design, and theme.
Stainless Steel 316
This type of stainless steel, compared to 304, has higher chemical resistance and corrosion resistance, making it very suitable for marine and defense industry applications such as ship components and chemical tanks. Additionally, it can be easily formed, machined, and welded like traditional steel.
Stainless Steel 416
This grade of steel offers the highest machinability. However, it improves machinability by sacrificing corrosion resistance, so it is typically more susceptible to corrosion compared to similar products of other stainless steels.
Stainless Steel 17-4PH
This is a precipitation hardening (PH) stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. It can be hardened to 44 HRC. The mechanical properties of this steel can be easily improved through heat treatment. Applications include gas turbines and chemical processing components.
Stainless Steel 15-5
This is a precipitation hardening (PH) metal. Compared to other martensitic grades, it offers better transverse properties, strength, and toughness. Low-temperature heat treatment can be used to improve its mechanical properties.
Finishing and post-processing options
We offer a variety of surface treatments for stainless steel CNC machining, including:
  • Machined Surface
  • Polishing
  • Sandblasting
  • Passivation

Polishing plays a key role in enhancing the aesthetics of metal products. In addition, it also increases the metal’s ability to withstand harsh environments. At the same time, polishing still helps to determine the shape of the mold and the final product manufactured using the polished mold.

It is commonly used for cosmetic purposes. By gently sandblasting the surface, a uniform smooth matte finish is formed.

In the passivation process, we use nitric acid or citric acid to remove free iron present on the surface. Through this chemical treatment, a protective oxide layer with lower chemical reactivity to the surrounding air is formed to prevent corrosion. In turn, when stainless steel is passivated, it will resist rusting and corrosion.
